About Us

Gallery Anthony was established in 2001 by husband and wife artists, Anthony and Marjorie Smith. Over the years, they have developed it into a customer centred space; giving visitors, their children and their dogs a warm, welcoming environment in which they can view and explore their vibrant and dramatic artwork, which is inspired by the Cornish land and seascape.

The gallery is also their studio, enabling visitors to see the work as it progresses.

Anthony began as a watercolour artist, then when he was introduced to Caran D’Aches’s Neocolor II which are water-soluble wax pastels, he experimented with them on oriental papers. From there, he has moved onto Golden acrylics which he uses on oriental paper and canvas. His subject matter ranges from seascapes and landscapes to abstract.

Marjorie began working with Neocolor II: cutting out organic shapes from the painted oriental paper. From there she progressed to painting in Golden acrylics and her subjects flowed from stylised flowers into abstracts and onto landscapes. Most recently Marjorie has been working with the oriental paper as a background and then painting on a Clear Levelling Gel. These paintings are proving to be very popular.

They are both studio painters who take inspiration from the mercurial surroundings of the Lizard peninsula. Greetings cards, limited edition and open prints of their work are on sale at the gallery.
